A Phil Ivey Thanksgiving

Here's what we're thankful here at Phil Ivey Rules.

And of course. Phil Ivey himself. We wouldn't be doing this without him.

Ivey dominates Full Tilt in November

Seems like I write a post every month that starts off "Phil Ivey dominates ______". Early in the month Patrik Antonius was the top money winner online, but Phil Ivey has crept up behind him and regained the top spot for the month thus far.

Phil Ivey didn't make his way to the top spot through mega-sized pots and multimillion-dollar sessions at Full Tilt Poker. Instead, he's been grinding his way to more than $1.5 million in earnings for the month in some smaller sessions.

One of those sessions took place Sunday against Matt Hawrilenko in a Limit Hold'em game on Full Tilt Poker. After a two-and-a-half-hour session of heads-up $2,000/$4,000, Ivey came out ahead with an extra $300,000 in cash.

That's just the tip of the iceberg, as Ivey had accumulated more than $1 million through 1,609 hands through the previous few days against Hawrilenko.

Phil Ivey being sued

Phil Ivey and Full Tilt Poker that is. It seems that former Full Tilt team member Clonie Gowen didn't think she got her fair share of the profits. We think she's crazy.

She’s suing Full Tilt Poker for $40,000,000 over a breach of contract!

Gowen alleges that when she signed on as a Full Tilt pro back in 2004, she was promised a 1% ownership of the company.

Well, in 2007, when it came time to receive her distribution check, she was only given a fraction of what she thought she was owed - which was $250,000 from Howard Lederer, chief operator of Full Tilt Poker.  Gowen felt the company was worth way more than what Lederer was making it seem to be, and refused the payment.

Let's do some REAL SIMPLE math here. $250,000 is 1% of $25,000,000. 25 million dollars. $40 Million is %1 of $4 BILLION. Does anyone really think their worth that type of money? Before the IGEA Full Tilt wasn't anything near what it is today.

Phil Ivey wins $650k in 90 minutes

I love Phil Ivey. He's my favorite player in the world. There is no one I would rather watch play poker and there is no one I fear playing poker with more than Phil Ivey. That being said, stories like this? Kinda make me hate the guy. $650k in 90 minutes? Are you kidding me?

It was a beating for the ages that high stakes Limit Hold’em specialist Matt Hawrilenko suffered during the evening hours on Full Tilt Poker. Playing on his very own Full Tilt Poker table, Hawrilenko took on Phil Ivey in a heads-up game of $2000/$4000 Limit Hold’em. The battle would turn out to be 90 minutes of torture for Hawrilenko as Ivey took down the nine biggest hands of play. After 343 hands of action, it would take an even $650K in losses for Hawrilenko to finally give in as Ivey’s rush was just too much to handle.

There is an old saying that poker is 100% skill and 100% luck. Well, the most skilled player in the world just had an incredible rush of luck. Sounds about right.
