Phil Ivey bets $1,000,000 on Super Bowl

With the Super Bowl just four days away now it looks like Phil Ivey has decided to place a bet on the game. It's not a surprise that he bet on the game, Phil Ivey loves to gamble. It's surprising just how much he bet.

Phil Ivey cannot stop betting enormous sums on big events. Once again he struck, and placed a $1,000,000 bet on the Super Bowl, which will take place next Sunday in Tampa, Florida between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals.

Apparently, the decision for this bet came in a phone call with Barry Greenstein. However, Ivey didn't want to tell on who he placed this huge sum. Last year, Ivey lost a seven-digit Dollar amount when he bet on the wrong team in the NBA finals.

When Ivey bet a million on the Lakers in the NBA Finals last year that made a bit of sense. He's a Lakers fan and the Lakers looked like a solid bet. With this game (besides the fact that it's, you know, the Super Bowl), not as much. As far as I know Phil isn't a big football guy and there is no clear allegiance to either team. Then again I know a lot of people who don't even watch football, but bet on it regularly so who knows.

I do find it funny that Ivey won't say who he bet on. Which makes me think that he bet on the Cardinals because, honestly, who would tell anyone they bet a million dollars on the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl?

LarsLuzak gets his revenge

We've written many times about Phil Ivey winning big pots over LarsLuzak. Now it was LarsLuzak's turn as he took down$154k from Phil. He's still got a way to go before he gets that $400K back though.

Sitting on Full Tilt Poker table GusHeaven, high stakes professionals Sami “LarsLuzak” Kelopuro and Phil Ivey played some heads-up $500/$1000 No-Limit Hold’em. They ended up playing a little over 20 minutes of action as Kelopuro took down the seven largest hands of the match. In just 41 hands of action, Kelopuro managed to book a solid $154K+ win over Ivey.

The great thing about poker is that we know these two will play again. Phil doesn't like to lose. Watch them play at Full Tilt.

Ivey wins largest pot of 2009 thus far

I'm getting the feeling that this is going to be a crazy year at Full Tilt Poker. Patrik Antonius is up over $2.8 million and January isn't even over yet. Meanwhile, Phil Ivey just won the biggest pot of the year just over $400k.

After some preflop action which made the pot reach over $40,000, players see , and LarsLuzak goes all-in with after Ivey bet $44,000. Ivey quickly calls LarsLuzak's $128,000 all-in with pocket aces and the turn brings an useful card for the Finn - we're talking about . However, the river showed a , which was useful for Ivey this time, as his aces held up. Thanks to them, he won the biggest pot in January and 2009 - $406,814.

As always you can watch these games live with a Full Tilt Poker account.

Ivey to defend WPT LAPC title?

Phil Ivey is not yet confirmed to defend his WPT LA Poker Classic title, but one would have to imagine he would. The cast is star studded and it's normally one of the highest purses on the World Poker Tour circuit as celebrities, all the major pros and tons of amateurs come out to prove themselves.

Already scheduled to play in the event are Daniel Negreanu, Allen Cunningham, Erik Seidel, Todd Brunson, Antonio Esfandiari, Howard Lederer, Jennifer Harman, John Juanda, Chris Ferguson, Joe Hachem, Scotty Nguyen and many other high-caliber poker players.

Together the players have a combined three World Series of Poker Main Event victories, 37 World Series bracelets, seven World Poker Tour victories, one European World Series of Poker victory and hundreds of millions of dollars in winnings.

With or without him this is an event I'm looking forward to.

Ivey wins $146k pot in Dwan warm-up

After accepting Tom Dwan's challenge it seems that Phil Ivey has been warming up with some Pot Limit Omaha action at Full Tilt. How's he been playing? So far, so good.

River Js6d6sTh [9h]
Ziigmund checks.
Phil Ivey bets $37,200.
Ziigmund calls $37,200.
Phil Ivey shows TdJcJdAc.
Ziigmund mucks.
Phil Ivey wins $146,599.

Of course, flopping a full house isn't exactly rocket science but the way Phil Ivey went after this pot (and Ziigmund's money) is still impressive. Expect Ivey to be multi-tabling at Full Tilt for the next few weeks as he gears up for this challenge.

You can always watch his play by signing up for a free account at Full Tilt Poker.
