Phil Ivey has been quiet but deadly

Not much going on in the Phil Ivey front lately as he has been relatively quiet in the online scene. That doesn't mean that he hasn't been making money, just that he's been quietly doing it.

Relatively absent from the tables this week, Phil Ivey logged fewer than 800 hands over the past seven days but still managed to turn nearly $686,000 in profit. The majority of those earnings came from a heads-up multi-table $500/1,000 HA session against Sami “LarsLuzak” Kelopuro last Saturday night, where Ivey turned a $449,000 profit and took down both of the session’s largest pots, coming in at over $200,000 apiece.

Phil Ivey takes down Ziigmund

Phil Ivey is back playing at Full Tilt Poker and from the looks of things he is back to his old tricks taking down Ziigmund for over a $500k in pots.

With LarsLuzak, Ivey and Ziigmund at the table, action quickly moved around until LarsLuzak folded at the first sign of Ivey's aggression on the flop. The turn was great for Ivey as he made a flush but decided to check and Ziigmund checked after him, oblivious to the trap he was falling into.

With four clubs in his hand and another four clubs on the board, Ivey was looking pretty confident on the river, especially considering that one of the clubs in his hand was an ace. He raised it to just over $100,000 which left him at roughly $50,000. It proved to be the right amount to lure Ziigmund into calling as Ivey gladly swiped away a $315,999 pot.

The two went on to play another pot where Ivey raked another $200k pot. It seems that Ivey's days of losing money online are behind him.

The stars come out, Phil Ivey shines

After the National Heads Up Championship drew to a close, many Full Tilt Poker pros hit the tables online. Phil Ivey, of course, being one of them. He didn't waste much time before getting into a battle with Tom "durrr" Dwan.

The first featured hand occurred between Phil Ivey and Durrrr.  It was during a $500/$1000 Pot Limit Omaha hand as Ivey held 5s-Qc-7h-4s.  Preflop, from the small blind, Ivey raised to $3,000 and as usual, Durrrr raised to $9,000.  Ivey called and the players saw a flop of 6c-4d-Qh giving Ivey top and bottom pair.  Ivey led out for $14,000 and Durrrr raised to $49,000 and before you could blink, both players were all in and the pot had $401,999.  Durrrr showed Ad-7d-5c-6d for middle pair, an open ended straight draw and backdoor diamond flush draw.

The turn was the of diamonds giving Durrrr two pair that still trailed Ivey’s two pair of Queens and 5’s but also gave him an open ended straight flush draw.  However, the river was the Jack of clubs, a total brick and Ivey scooped the enormous pot.

Over the course of the session Phil Ivey ended up over $374k in the black over multiple tables.

Ivey joins $1 million stack club

Phil Ivey is on his way back to being a positive player in 2009 with his great play the past few weeks. He recently played heads up with Tom Dwan for over FIVE HOURS in the Ivey Thunderdome, $500/$1000 Pot-Limit Omaha table. When all was said and done Ivey emerged $1.1 million richer than he was when he sat down.

Key Hand: With over $650,000 in Ivey's stack and Dwan's at $168,000, Dwan opened for the standard $3,000. Ivey reraised to $9,000, Dwan four-bet to $27,000, and Ivey five-bet to $81,000 before Dwan flat-called. Ivey bet $162,000, enough to set Dwan all in, on the (K-Hearts)(10-Clubs)(8-Diamonds) flop, and Dwan called, showing his flopped two pair and open-ended straight draw with (Q-Clubs)(J-Diamonds)(10-Hearts)(8-Hearts), which was up against Ivey's (A-Spades)(A-Hearts)(2-Hearts)(2-Diamonds). The turn, though, was the (K-Diamonds), the lead switching to Ivey with aces up. The river was the (5-Diamonds) and "durrrr" was forced to reload again, with this $336,589 pot shipped to Ivey.

Ivey and Dwan mix it up

In what could be seen as a warmup for the "durrrnament" or as Phil Ivey's rise back to 2008 level profits. Phil Ivey played Tom Dwan on Full Tilt the other day and won some huge pots. Surprised? Didn't think so.

The hand was Pot Limit Hold-em and Phil Ivey raised to $3k which durrrr called. The flop was [Td 3s 4s] and durrrr checked while Phil Ivey bet $4k which durrrr then raised to $13,300 which Ivey called. The turn was a  [Ts] and after a bit of thinking durrrr bet $23,600 which Ivey then raised to $74,000 which didn’t take long before durrrr raised all-in….which cost Phil Ivey an additional  $36,385.50 to call as he went all-in (and was the smaller stack). At this time durrrr showed [Tc Ac] while Phil Ivey had the flush with [8s Js]. The river was a [Qh] not improving either hand and Phil Ivey took down the monster pot worth $253,370.50.

This was quite the pot for Phil, but he didn't stop there. Just a few hands later this went down. Read More...
