Is it that time already? The 2009 National Heads Up Championship takes place this weekend and Phil Ivey is one of the early favorites.

On Sportsbook.com, Phil Ivey currently has the best odds of winning at 20/1. He is followed by names such as Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, Daniel Negreanu and Andy Bloch, who are all listed at 22/1 to win.

On Bodoglife.com, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson is listed at 22/1. He is followed by Phil Ivey (25/1), Tom "durrrr" Dwan (25/1), Daniel Negreanu (25/1) and Vanessa Selbst (25/1).

I've never really understood the appeal of betting on a poker tournament, but if I was of course I'd be betting on Phil Ivey. The way I look at it is when you bet on poker the person you're betting on should be the one you are most afraid to play and that person is without a doubt Phil. What I would LOVE to bet on is Phil Ivey's first round match up. His opponent? Jennifer Tilly.

Last year, Phil Ivey won the L.A. Poker Classic. This year, he's in 22nd after day 1. Could a repeat be in store?

Reigning L.A. Poker Classic champion Phil Ivey sits in 22nd place entering Day 2 with 74,275 chips, over twice the average stack. Ivey’s lone WPT win was worth $1.5 million. He has a grand total of nine WPT in the money finishes to his name; all but one has been for a final table appearance. Ivey has nearly $3 million in earnings on WPT felts and holds five WSOP bracelets to boot. Interestingly, none of Ivey’s pieces of hardware have been won in Texas Hold’em tournaments (Pot Limit Omaha twice, Limit SHOE, Limit Seven Card Stud High-Low, and Limit Seven Card Stud).

KJ Nam currently leads the field with Phil Ivey's good friend Daniel Negreanu currently sitting in fifth. The LAPC is one of the most popular stops on the WPT so this should be a good one. We'll keep you updated.

High Stakes Poker has just announced it's players for season 5. For the 5th season they are raising the minimum buy-in to $200,000 so it should be pretty exciting. Whenever there is a game with that kind of money, you know Phil Ivey isn't far behind.

High Stakes Poker has just announced its lineup of stars and professionals for its fifth season, and it’s sure to generate excitement as the list includes some of the most well-known poker players in the world, as well as the top two finishers of the 2008 main event.

Phil Ivey will be joined by such pros as Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Laak, Howard Lederer, Barry Greenstein and 2008 WSOP champion Peter Eastgate. It should be pretty exciting as towards the end of last season players were buying in for as much as $500,000. Sounds right up Phil's alley.

One of the absolute coolest things about high stakes poker is the ability to run it twice. What is that exactly? I'll let Daniel Negrenau explain:

All I had at the moment was a pair of threes with a 6 kicker, but I was still close to a 2-1 favorite to win the pot. Doyle finally agreed to run it twice, which suited me just fine. I was thinking to myself, "Winning both would be awesome, but breaking even wouldn't be such a horrible result."

Now, when I say "run it twice," I mean the dealer would burn and turn as usual. Whoever had the best hand after all five community cards were faceup would be up one leg.

Then, both the turn and river cards would be thrown into the muck and the dealer would once again burn and turn, revealing a new turn card as well as a new river card. If you win both legs, you win the whole pot. If you win just one leg, you split the middle. If you lose both legs - well, you cry about your bad luck! Read More...

Daniel Negreanu revealed on his blog that he was doing a couple of shoots for Full Tilt Poker's Poker After Dark show and it looks like Phil Ivey will be playing as well.

Oct 29th: I'll be playing in the $20k buy in Poker After Dark show against Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, and Phil Hellmuth.

Oct 30th: Once again I'll be playing on Poker After Dark only this time it will be under the cash game format against the likes of: Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, Tom Dwan, Gus Hansen, and Phil Hellmuth.

The one going on today looks like a true game of legends, but I'm looking forward to the game after. It'll be just like Rail Heaven.
