7 days til the WSOP

The World Series of Poker is starting in a week. Could this be the year that Phil Ivey finally gets his bracelet in the Main Event? Probably not. Honestly, I'm more excited to see the $50,000 HORSE tournament which to me is the true main event. Bigger buy-in, bigger test of skill.

Should be interesting. We'll be covering the tournament closely as we root on our favorite player. Read More...

Bodog has Phil Ivey as favorite in WSOP Props

Do you like poker? Do you like prop betting? Bodog has you covered for the 2009 WSOP.

A special last longer wager is also available on the prestigious $50,000 buy-in HORSE Championship, which was infamously won last year by Scotty Nguyen. He has 5:1 odds in the bet, the favorite among the pros available. Others include Brunson (6:1), Hellmuth (7:1), Chan (7:1), Freddy Deeb (11:2), Phil Ivey (6:1), David Williams (11:2), Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo (11:2), and Negreanu (6:1). Deeb won the event in 2007 and the late Chip Reese took down the inaugural HORSE Championship in 2006. The trophy given to the winner of the event is named in his honor.

WSOP finally up to Phil Ivey’s speed

Phil Ivey is a high stakes poker player. He likes to risk big money to win big money. For the past few years the World Series of Poker has been a crapshoot. More and more players every year with new amateurs making the final table every year. It's no longer about who is the best player, it's about who is good but also lucky. Not this year though. This year Phil Ivey will have the chance to flex his muscles at the WSOP in a $40k buy-in No Limit Hold Em tournament and a $50k buy-in H.O.R.S.E event. This is where the best in the world will be playing and where the best player in the world may be crowned.

This year's World Series of Poker will be as big as ever, with the surprise announcement of a special $40,000 no-limit hold'em event to commemorate 40 years of the WSOP. This high-stakes bracelet event will be Event #2 of the WSOP (behind the casino employees event, which returns to its leadoff spot) and will define the early play, as it will be a big-bet version of the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E event – one which all the pros will want to win, won't include many recreational players, and most likely will produce a TV final table to die for.

Hopefully, the success of this event will lead to it continuing past this year and become a staple (although I'd still prefer a $100k buy-in.)

Ivey finishes 6th at WSOPE HORSE event

We've covered Phil Ivey at the WSOPE for the past couple days and he was knocked out of the HORSE event yesterday finishing in sixth for £13,750. Congratulations go to eventual winner Sherkhan Farnood

Donev had a flush draw on sixth street, but it wasn’t to be for the Austrian, as Farnood’s queens and eights were good enough in the end, earning him his first World Series Of Poker bracelet and ₤76,999. Donev received £48,125 for his fantastic runner-up finish.

Ivey still alive in WSOPE HORSE Event

Sounds like an exciting day at the WSOPE HORSE event as the field was down to just 11 and Phil Ivey is still going strong.

In the Omaha 8 discipline, Phil Ivey reclaimed ownership of his table by eliminating Daniel Negreanu. After the war of the raisers preflop, the cards were dealt 796, Negreanu revealed A626 and Ivey, 10728. The 2 turn and K river did not make any difference as Ivey’s straight dominated Negreanu’s set, and off the Canadian went to the rail in 14th place.
