Phil Ivey makes it to day four of WSOP

Play Online PokerThe good news is Phil Ivey is still in the 2009 WSOP Main Event, has an above average stack (371,000) and he is only 162 eliminations from making the money. The bad news is that he is over one million chips behind the leader. Ivey has been updating his twitter page semi-regularly with WSOP updates. He will most definitely be looking to double up on someone today.

Ivey in the hunt for 3rd bracelet in 2009

Phil Ivey is among 30 people left in the $5000 No Limit Shoot out event. Not only that, but he is tied for first place. With the other 30 people. Seem impossible?

The explanation is that this is the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout. The structure involves every initial ten-handed table playing down to a single winner on Day 1, without table breaks, as if each were a separate sit-and-go tournament. Each of those table winners made the money and advanced to Day 2. Among those returning when action resumes at 2:00 p.m. Monday are Phil Ivey, David “The Dragon” Pham, Jennifer Harman, Barny Boatman, Neil Channing, and Lex Veldhuis.

Basically, to add his 3rd bracelet this year and 8th overall Phil Ivey has to win two straight six handed sit and gos. Can he do it? This is one time I would DEFINITELY bet on Phil Ivey.

Phil Ivey wins 7th bracelet, where do we go from here?

phil ivey 7th braceletPhil Ivey won his 7th bracelet in the $2,500 Omaha/7 Card Stud Hi-Lo mixed game. Here's how he did it:

In the final hand, Lee moved all in on third street with {J-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{7-Spades} and Ivey made the call with {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{3-Clubs}. Ivey improved to three queens by the river and Lee finished with only a pair of jacks. Ivey’s three queens were enough to win him his second gold bracelet of the 2009 World Series of Poker and his seventh overall. Phil Ivey is now tied with Billy Baxter for fourth all-time in bracelet wins. In addition to his seventh bracelet, Ivey received $220,538 in prize money.

This further solidifies Ivey's position as the top poker player in the world and can only do more to improve his image at Full Tilt Poker (speaking of, here's a Full Tilt Poker Review). He is currently tied for 6th place on the all-time bracelet list and with one more will move into a tie for 4th. Can he do it this year? I certainly think there's a good chance, but wouldn't count on it. Winning a bracelet is HARD.

Phil Ivey has been quiet but deadly

Not much going on in the Phil Ivey front lately as he has been relatively quiet in the online scene. That doesn't mean that he hasn't been making money, just that he's been quietly doing it.

Relatively absent from the tables this week, Phil Ivey logged fewer than 800 hands over the past seven days but still managed to turn nearly $686,000 in profit. The majority of those earnings came from a heads-up multi-table $500/1,000 HA session against Sami “LarsLuzak” Kelopuro last Saturday night, where Ivey turned a $449,000 profit and took down both of the session’s largest pots, coming in at over $200,000 apiece.
